Fleetwood Town confirm signing of Leeds talent Max McMillan
Fleetwood Town have announced the signing of Leeds United academy talent Max McMillan on Friday evening.
The 18-year-old has left Elland Road permanently to join the League One side, and will link up with their Development Squad.
Former Whites defender Stephen Crainey runs that academy squad for the Cod Army, and will clearly have some links with the club.
Fleetwood confirmed the news in the past hour on their official Twitter account, something which will disappoint some Whites fans.
“Fleetwood are pleased to announce Max McMillan has joined the club from Premier League side Leeds United,” they wrote.
“The 18-year-old has signed a deal with the Cod Army and will join up with Stephen Crainey’s Development Squad with immediate effect.”
Out of nowhere.
Despite initially showing great talent in West Yorkshire, the Whites clearly believe that there wasn’t much of a future for the attacker.
Leeds would have fought harder to keep McMillan if they believed he did, but instead, he went in search of first-team football elsewhere, dropping down the ladder.
The South African has signed a two-year deal at Fleetwood and will look to progress through their development squad quicker than he did at Thorp Arch.
McMillan has only managed to score one goal in 14 league appearances for the under-18s this season, as well as two strikes in the Youth Cup.
That isn’t a prolific record for an attacker in this free-flowing Whites set up at every level, and it was clearly something that ultimately saw his career here come to an end; we wish him all the luck for the future.
