First criteria revealed to make Weston McKennie loan permanent as Leeds United set to sign him

Leeds United are reportedly set to secure the services of Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie on an initial loan with an option to buy.

According to 90Min journalist Graeme Bailey, it is an initial loan fee of £1million which will become £30million based on certain criteria.

The first criterion of it becoming a permanent deal is if Leeds manage to avoid relegation and secure Premier League status for next season.

Via Twitter, Bailey wrote, “Weston McKennie is joining Leeds – they quickly became his first-choice after Juventus made him available and a number of Prem clubs showed an interest.

“£1m loan which could become overall £30m deal if Leeds hit certain criteria – staying up being the first.”

Makes sense

McKennie will be moving to Leeds to play Premier League football after being at the club that’s competing in the Champions League.

He surely would not want to feature in the Championship and in case of relegation, he will be going back to the Old Lady.

However, Leeds are in a good position now to avoid being drawn into a relegation battle going into the final few weeks of the window.

Leeds United

They’ve signed two important players in Max Wober and Georginio Rutter and bringing in McKennie will be cheery on the cake for them.

It’s now on to Jesse Marsch to bring the best out of these players as it’s pretty clear that he’s been backed to the T by the Leeds board.

Marcelo Bielsa was not even given one signing amid an injury crisis last January while the American has got three players to strengthen his playing eleven.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites appear to be on the cusp of another January signing as a player’s agent jets into the United Kingdom to conduct final transfer talks.
