'Finally', 'Wow' – Many Leeds fans react as talkSPORT broadcaster explodes false Leeds narrative
There’s always a media narrative in play about Leeds United.
Last season it was burnout. That’s carried on this season but the most popular is how the style of play that Leeds take into every game is costing them points and has to change.
Many pundits are saying that Marcelo Bielsa has no plan B and that he can’t go into games against top sides and expect to attack.
talkSPORT pundit Adrian Durham is the man who pointed out exactly what is wrong with this theory.
Talking on the Drive show on Monday, Durham pointed out what no one else has been saying – the huge injury problems Leeds have currently got.
“[Bielsa] knows Tottenham have better players than Leeds,” said Durham. “When you have three centre-backs out and you’re newly promoted like Leeds, how do you think you’re going to get on against Son and Kane?
“Even if they’d shut up shop… With three centre-backs out, how are they supposed to shut up shop? Do people not understand football?
“It’s unbelievable. Leeds priority was survival… Look at the other two [newly promoted clubs], look at the other two and see how much they’re struggling.
“Leeds are on 23 points, 12 points, four wins above the relegation zone and people are calling for them to change. Do you understand anything about football?
“Leeds priority was survival, Bielsa’s priority was style, they’ve got both. What’s the problem?”
🤷♂️ “With three centre-backs out injured.. how are they meant to shut up shop?!
✅ #LUFC’s priority was survival. Bielsa’s priority was style. They’ve got both!”
😡 “What’s the problem?!”

Leeds fans were absolutely loving what Durham had to say – and no wonder.
If a top-six side had their defence decimated with all three senior centre-backs out, it would be headline news.
With Leeds, it’s gone completely under the radar.
With Gaetano Berardi, it’s actually four senior centre-backs out.
Considering that, Leeds have been doing brilliantly, sitting one point ahead of Wolves, often praised for how they’ve coped in the Premier League.
Coming up to the halfway point of the season, Leeds are in a great position in the league and we’ve got there playing thrilling, attractive football.
As Durham said, what’s the problem?

Wow, is someone in the media talking sense, this is the first time I’ve heard someone mention 3 injured centre backs (it’s actually 4 with Berardi)

It’s pretty simple for me. Bielsa tries to get us to win at all costs. Most teams try not to lose at all costs. Bielsa is a breath of fresh air to the @premierleague

Spot on this from @talkSPORTDrive. Just look at where the other promoted teams are. Amazing what Bielsa gets out of these players, majority were average championship players. Showing how a great coach can improve players. This style with better players over time finish high up

At last someone on @talkSPORT who has done a little research and knows the situation at Leeds! 3 best CB’s injured, best RB having to play CB, making do and still having a go! Nice work @talkSPORTDrive

Leeds fans have been saying this since the Liverpool game. Some pundits and broadcasters have finally picked up on it.

Wow someone who actually understands and isn’t making comments just cos it’s leeds and will get a reaction

Wow. I’m actually in agreement with a TalkSport pundit for once. #lufc pic.twitter.com/LvwHCKWVzN

Finally, someone has highlighted our defensive injuries. We haven’t field a full strength defence for more than 3 games in a row this season.

Thank you Adrian, it’s about time someone who understands football used a platform to speak the truth.
