FIFA rules block Sonny Perkins exit at Leeds United after Wednesday development at Elland Road
Leeds United forward Sonny Perkins will not be heading out on loan again this season due to a FIFA rule blocking his exit from Elland Road, according to Joe Donnohue.
The Whites decided to terminate the loan deal for the young striker, recalling him from Oxford United, the club confirmed on 3 January.
Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Donnohue, taking to his personal Twitter account (3 January) shared that the 19-year-old striker will not go back out having already represented Leeds United and Oxford, with FIFA rules stipulating a player cannot play for three clubs in the same season.
Donnohue posted: “Leeds United forward Sonny Perkins has been recalled from his loan spell at Oxford United. 19 y/o will not go back out having represented Leeds United and Oxford during the first half of the season.
“FIFA rules stipulate a player cannot play for three teams in the same season.”
Great shout
Perkins failed to make an impact at the League One outfit, making just five appearances and scoring one goal and it is believed the Whites feel his development will be better served at Elland Road.
His limited playing time, including a mere five minutes of league football, indicates a lack of impact and adaptation to the demands of senior football.

Perkins, who scored in the EFL Trophy against Chelsea Under-21s, has failed to prove that he can find the back of the net on a consistent basis and the loan spell at Oxford United was supposed to provide him with the development and refining his game needed.
In recalling Perkins, Leeds should now prioritise finding him a more suitable loan destination where he can gain valuable experience and consistent playing time.
A successful loan stint is crucial for his development, helping him refine his skills and adapt to the competitive nature of professional football, because it is quite clear Daniel Farke won’t have use for him in the first-team picture.
He may have failed to make the grade in League One, but who’s to say a move to a mid-table club in the Championship won’t suffice?
In other Leeds United news, an international player linked with a move to Elland Road is unhappy at his current club and could be on his way out in the January transfer window.
