Femi Azeez reacts to Millwall fans away at Leeds after controversial scenes

Femi Azeez has provided his thoughts on the Millwall fans away at Elland Road after their 2-0 FA Cup win against Leeds United on Saturday amid new controversy.

Two goals from Azeez in either half of the game on 8 February saw the Whites’ FA Cup run come to an end with the 14th-placed Championship club walking away from West Yorkshire as the winners.

However, the match was marred by controversy as Leeds confirmed that tragedy chants were heard from Millwall fans, leading to both clubs now working with the Police to find those responsible.

Femi Azeez hails ‘fantastic’ Millwall fans at Leeds United

Meanwhile, Azeez took to social media to express his delight at helping Millwall progress into the fifth round of the FA Cup.

The 23-year-old also tipped his hat to the Lions faithful for their support away from home, lauding them as “fantastic”.

“Into the hat for the next round!”, Azeez wrote on Instagram (8 February).

“Personally really pleased to mark my return with a brace and an incredible team performance to top it off.

“Thanks for the fantastic away support.”

FA to launch investigation into tragedy chants

Azeez may have been unaware of what happened in the away stand on Saturday, but it would have been better to avoid the remark on the fans in his Instagram post, given that Leeds put out their statement immediately after the game.

While it may have only been a handful of irresponsible and disrespectful fans who initiated the chants, tragedy chanting remains a major problem in English football.

There is no doubt that the Elland Road outfit and the Lions will be prompt to identify the culprits and take action in due course.

Meanwhile, Keith Hackett has tipped the FA to launch an investigation of their own, with the Police’s observations also taken into consideration.

Meanwhile, Daniel Farke and Co will be disappointed to have exited the FA Cup in such disappointing fashion, even with ten changes to the starting line-up.

Josuha Guilavogui was among those who struggled to make an impression after coming into the first XI.

The West Yorkshire outfit will look to return to winning ways when they face Watford at Vicarage Road in the Championship on Tuesday, 11 February.
