FC Barcelona line up Leeds United ace Illan Meslier to replace ter Stegen

FC Barcelona are reportedly considering Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier as one of the options to replace Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Newskill journalist Gerard Romero, on his Twitch channel, discussed the Catalan side’s interest in the French shot stopper.

As translated by Spark Chronicles, Wolfsburg number one Koen Casteels, Andre Onana from Ajax and Fiorentina keeper Bartlomiej Dragowski are the other names on their shortlist.

Surely not?

Meslier has been an excellent goalkeeper for Leeds, but we do not think that a club like Barcelona would be looking at him.

They’re known to target players from the other big Spanish clubs or sign relative unknowns from South America.

The Frenchman clearly has immense potential and could one day be good enough to play for a club of Barcelona’s stature, but we do not think that it is now.

Also, losing him would be a significant blow for Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa as he is a fundamental part of the side play.

He’s comfortable with and without possession and knows when to leave his box to sweep up loose balls.

The 21-year-old is also adept at playing long passes and his positioning has only kept getting better since the start of last season.

We do not see this going ahead and it seems like his name has just been thrown into the mix to drive some buzz as the other three names were quite expected.
