‘Fantastic news’ – Exclusive: Pundit reacts to major update about future of key Leeds loanee

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said the update that Ben White will stay at Leeds for the rest of this season is “fantastic news” for the club.

There had been a concern that White could be recalled after David Ornstein had said that Brighton might want White to return to the AMEX on June 30 when his loan spell officially ends.

However, as quoted in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Potter has put that to bed saying, “All the guys who are on loan will stay and finish their loan spells.”

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “It’s fantastic news for Leeds that they’re keeping Ben White until the end of the season. You’d like to keep him for another five years if you could, but you can’t.

“It’s very good news because he’s become an integral part of the starting XI. He’s probably my Player of the Year in all honesty, how he’s played, in midfield as well.

“Having him for the rest of the season is a huge boost and if he does go back in the summer, to wherever, it will leave a huge hole in the Leeds’ backline.

“I think Brighton will do well to hold onto him regardless of what happens with Leeds. He’ll have a lot of big suitors after him in the Premier League and in Europe too I’d imagine. An England call-up isn’t far away.

“I don’t see his future at Brighton, no disrespect to them, and Leeds’ best hope is probably getting him on another season-long loan.”

White has been sublime at the back for Leeds this season and helped them to the best defensive record in the Championship.

Leeds are on a run of five wins without conceding a goal and if they do go on and secure promotion, White will have a been a huge part of that.

Fans will be desperate to see him play for Leeds in the Premier League but it could be a tough ask to sign him permanently, with clubs like Liverpool also interested.
