Fabrizio Romano shares latest on Liverpool hunt for Leeds United star Raphinha

Fabrizio Romano has urged people not to pay too much attention to reports linking Liverpool with a move for Leeds United winger Raphinha.

It was reported by The Mirror on Sunday [05 June], that the Reds are ramping up their efforts to sign the Brazilian, and could use Takumi Minamino as bait in the deal.

Barcelona are said to still be in the driving seat, although no real progress has been made due to their huge financial trouble at the Nou Camp.

Writing in his latest column for Caught Offside, Romano shared what he has heard about the Brazilian potentially moving to Anfield this summer.

“My understanding is that Liverpool will definitely look to replace Mane if he leaves, but until then I wouldn’t pay too much attention to some of the speculation we’ve seen,” he wrote.

“Including recent rumours involving Christian Pulisic and Raphinha being targets for Jurgen Klopp.”

Waiting game.

So, it appears as though Liverpool won’t be serious runners in this race until Sadio Mane officially leaves Anfield as he is expected to do at some point this summer.

Leeds hold all of the cards and can demand big, big money after surviving on the final day of the 2021-22 Premier League season by the skin of their teeth.

Phil Hay reported that it could take between £60-£70million to get a deal over the line, so Liverpool including Minamino is an interesting concept.

The Reds will try and claim that the Japanese international is worth more than £20million, but that is a hard one to sell given that he only started once in the Premier League last season.

Jurgen Klopp can want Raphinha all he wants, but with it not being a serious interest yet, he is going to have to pay more the closer we get to the 2022-23 season starting.
