Fabrizio Romano: Marcelo Bielsa to sign Leeds United contract today, announcement imminent
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claims Marcelo Bielsa will sign a new contract today to tie him to Leeds United until June 2022.
Earlier on Thursday [12/08/21], BBC journalist Adam Pope shared quotes from Bielsa’s press conference on his personal Twitter profile, with the Argentine manager clarifying that his contractual situation has been “resolved”.
Now, Romano has delivered an update, claiming El Loco will put pen to paper today [Thursday, 12/08/21].

He wrote: “Marcelo Bielsa will sign today his new contract with Leeds, confirmed and here-we-go. Agreement completed with president Andrea Radrizzani until June 2022.
“Official announcement expected soon. Paperworks to be signed today afternoon.”

We’re not sure if Bielsa will agree to make a big fuss out of his contract renewal, but Leeds supporters are desperate to see El Loco pictured with the pen and papers in his hands.
It’s been a long wait for him to confirm his future – we knew he would stay, but he likes to make us sweat it out.
There’s no surprise either that the deal will only tie him to the Whites until next summer as Bielsa seems reluctant to commit to anything that he cannot 100% guarantee.
It’s a noble decision and typical of his character, as many managers sign long-term contracts safe in the knowledge that even if they quit they are likely to gain some level of compensation from their employers.
That’s not what it’s about for Bielsa though – he wants to ensure he is the right man for the job, and he makes his assessments at the end of the season and during the summer months.
Who knows, maybe this will be the last Leeds contract he signs, but the signs are that this team can reach new levels under his tutelage, and we’re desperate to see him at Elland Road for many more years to come.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign this Portuguese attacking sensation.
