Fabrizio Romano: Leeds not in advanced talks for Matheus Cunha

Leeds United are not in advanced talks to sign Hertha Berlin star Matheus Cunha this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer insider has responded to claims that the Whites are only one step away from signing the Brazilian attacker.

The Whites have been linked with numerous South American options already, despite Marcelo Bielsa not yet signing his new contract.

Writing on his personal Twitter account on Monday morning, Romano shared if Leeds are deep in negotiations with the German club.

“Noa Lang is one of the targets,” he said.

“Cunha appreciated – but it’s not advanced/close to being agreed as of today.”

Not close.

This is another one we can likely cross of our lists for now, with differing updates popping up every single day.

Rudy Galetti, a journalist for Calciomercato suggested over the weekend that the move was only “one step away.”

That got some excited, although it’s likely that we will now be made to wait for some big-name signings.

Jack Harrison will likely be announced as a permanent signing on Thursday, and then others will follow as July continues.

Cunha hasn’t exactly lit the Bundesliga up consistently in recent years, but he did get nominated for the Puskas Award after a stunning strike for RB Leipzig.

Scoring only seven goals in 27 appearances isn’t exactly prolific, and we would need much more consistency in the final third to justify that sort of money.

This one isn’t close yet, and although the club appreciates Cunha, there is little chance of a deal happening in the near future.
