Fabrizio Romano issues blockbuster Leeds United transfer update amid Hwang and Gakpo links

Leeds United will reportedly only sign Cody Gakpo or Hwang Hee-chan in case Dan James is sold amid Tottenham Hotspur interest.

According to Sky Sports Italy journalist Fabrizio Romano, while the Whites do want to sign the duo, neither will arrive if the Welshman is retained.

While Jesse Marsch confirmed interest in the Wolves forward, any move for him hinges on James’ future at Elland Road.

Via Twitter, Romano wrote, “Leeds are considering Hwang Hee-Chan and Cody Gakpo as options to replace Daniel James only in case he decides to leave.

“Gakpo, not easy deal at all as there are many clubs in the race, including Southampton.”

Alas

Leeds need a new striker anyhow and that should not be contingent on James’ future at the club.

The Welshman has been a flop and it will be better if he’s offloaded sooner rather than later.

However, if he’s not sold, not signing either Gakpo or Hwang is plain stupidness and surely Jesse Marsch will be fuming with that.

He’s got to knock on Victor Orta’s door and ask him to do something about this situation sooner rather than later.

Rodrigo has gotten injured now and Patrick Bamford’s fitness record is also woeful – so Leeds will have only a 20-year-old in Joe Gelhardt likely to be available to lead the line in most games.

This cannot be how a professionally run football club operates and it’s time for Leeds to make a quick move on the striker front.

With Wolves signing Sasa Kalajdzic, that seems an easier signing to make and there do not seem to be any real contenders in the race for Hwang as well.
