'Fabian Delph converted me' - Sky pundit makes Leeds promotion claim
Nigel Reo-Coker hasn’t quite been converted into a Leeds United fan but ex-Elland Road ace Fabian Delph did convert the former West Ham midfielder into drinking Yorkshire Tea.
Even though he doersn’t support the Whites, Reo-Coker can still see Leeds winning promotion to the Premier League if they’re able to keep up the level of performances they were churning out before the Championship season was suspended.
Leeds went on a five-match winning streak without conceding a single goal before the break, taking them top of the table and seven points clear of third.
If Marcelo Bielsa’s men can keep up that form, Reo-Coker sees them returning to the Premier League after a 16-year absence.
“If Leeds can maintain a big level of performance on this return, [they’ll be] getting promoted back to the Premier League,” the Sky pundit said on Sky Sports News on Wednesday [11:26am]. “A good friend of mine Fabian Delph converted me to drinking more Yorkshire Tea.”
It is hard to pick what the biggest headline will be in football this year if Leeds do end up winning promotion back to the Premier League.
One of England’s biggest clubs has spent far too long outside the top-flight and most years, that story would have been slapped all over the back-pages across the nation.
But now you have Liverpool on the verge of their first-ever Premier League title while the coronavirus pandemic has created headline after headline.
It truly is a unique season and, of course, the time Leeds do go back up is the only time that fans are not allowed to enter Elland Road.
It’s typical but we all know, everything that happens at Elland Road is worthy of the history books.
