FA make Junior Firpo announcement ahead of Leeds United clash v QPR

Leeds United defender Junior Firpo has been ruled out of the clash with QPR and has been banned for three matches, the FA have confirmed.

The FA announced via X on Saturday (9 November) that the Dominican Republic international had been suspended for violent conduct after an incident in the Whites’ 1-0 defeat to Millwall last time out.

Although the on-field referee didn’t spot the incident between Firpo and Lions star Danny McNamara the altercation was caught on video. The Leeds leftback did deny the charge against him but the suspension he been imposed anyway.

Daniel Farke’s side face QPR at Elland Road on Saturday (9 November) as they look to get back to winning ways in the Championship.

What has happened to Leeds United star Junior Firpo at Elland Road?

There was an obvious altercation between Firpo and McNamara during the Whites’ defeat to Millwall and the Lions man was quick to complain to the referee suggesting that the Leeds man had fouled him in some way.

Of course, it would have been impossible for the officials to see that incident as it unfolded, but it must have been fairly obvious in the footage for Firpo to not only have been suspended but be suspended after denying the charge.

While it is a major blow to the Whites to lose the left-back for three matches, particularly when kick-off against QPR is only a matter of games away, Farke is lucky that he has some good options waiting in the wings.

Sam Byram has impressed when called upon this season and while he may not possess the same attacking attributes as Firpo, he is more than capable of stepping up and filling the void at short notice.

Similarly, Isaac Schmidt has been waiting in the wings for his opportunity at Elland Road and Farke may now feel that the time has come to give the summer signing his first start in Leeds United colours.
