Sam Byram has left Darren Bent in awe with an "absolutely fantastic" run in the clash between Leeds United and Bristol City.

Daniel Farke's side missed the opportunity to move top of the Championship as they flattered to deceive in what was ultimately a bore 0-0 draw at Ashton Gate on Saturday (26 October).

While the Whites struggled to break the home side down in the opening 45 minutes, talkSPORT pundit Bent was blown away by a lung-busting attacking run from Byram that Willy Gnonto was unable to pick out.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Saturday (26 October, 12:49) he said: "The opportunity is gone.

"Absolutely fantastic run from Sam Byram, he was full steam ahead and if Gnonto could have just left it in there, Sam Byram would have been in.

"Because he held on for it for too long, the opportunity went and Bristol City managed to get back into that tight compact shape."

What has happened to Leeds United man Sam Byram at Elland Road?

He may not have been a regular under Farke at Elland Road this term, but Byram's display at Ashton Gate showed just how reliable he can be when he needs to be called upon.

The former Norwich City is never going to be the most exciting of fullbacks but he does the simple things incredibly well whether he is playing at right-back or left-back. He posed a constant threat down the left flank on Saturday afternoon.

Whether or not his showing in the southwest will have been enough to push Junior Firpo remains to be seen, but you'd have to imagine Farke and his coaching team will stand by the Dominican Republic international after his impressive start.

The only person who will have been disappointed with Byram's display will likely be Isaac Schmidt.
