‘Extraordinary’ – Sky Sports man stunned by one Leeds player in first-half v Fulham
Rob Hawthorn and Alan Smith were left stunned by an incredible save from Illan Meslier in the game between Leeds United and Fulham at Craven Cottage tonight.
Josh Maja almost gave the home side the lead after Leeds had a goal disallowed for a marginal offside – again.
Maja’s shot was from close range and Meslier stuck a hand up and just managed to keep the ball out
“What a save,” said Hawthorn on the Sky Sports commentary (Sky Sports, Friday, 8pm).
“Extraordinary save from Meslier at close range. He got a really strong hand to it.”
Alan Smith agreed saying, “Sheer reflexes from the keeper. This save is magnificent. Maja caught it so well, he must have thought he’d scored.”
Wow
This was an incredible save.
Meslier has been getting better and better for Leeds, and this was just pure reflexes from our youngster.
It would have been deeply unfair had Fulham taken the lead after Leeds had another goal ruled out for a marginal offside.
Ayling ripped his hairband out to celebrate only to see that VAR thought Tyler Roberts’ shoulders were offside.
The Leeds goal, when it came, was emphatic and there was nothing the suits at Stockley Park could do about this one.
It means that Leeds were almost halfway to breaking the London curse that has bedevilled them since December 2017.
But then Fulham spoiled the party and equalised – from a set piece. Yep, a set piece. Again.
There’s a big second half ahead for the three points that would also pretty much guarantee our Premier League status.
