We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson has said it will be a “huge blow” for Leeds if Kalvin Phillips is ruled out for the game against Arsenal on Sunday.

Philips hobbled out of the game against Crystal Palace last week and faces a late fitness test for the game at the Emirates on Sunday.

Robinson said he’s the one player Leeds don’t have a direct replacement for and said that he thinks Leeds should “break the bank” to bring Ben White back to Elland Road next season.

White spent last season on loan and covered the holding midfield position when Phillips was out.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “It’s the one position they have no replacement for and results without him aren’t good.

“Last season they had Ben White and that’s why I still think Leeds should break the bank and sign White in the summer.

“There is no direct replacement at the moment and it’s a huge blow if he’s out injured for the Arsenal clash.

“Mind you, looking at the points total that Leeds have, they’re two wins away from staying up which is a fantastic achievement.

“Leeds won’t risk Phillips unless she’s 100%. You can’t take any chances with a calf injury – I know that all too well. The physios will know and they won’t put him at risk.

“He’s not definitely out, though, and I think this is a game that Leeds will be looking forward to.

“It’s an indifferent Arsenal team and it’s a game Leeds will be looking forward to.

“It’s a nice, big pitch, Leeds can play expansive football and really put pressure on that Arsenal defence.

“It will e a big test for Emile Smith Rowe against Kalvin Phillips or whoever plays there for Leeds.

“I’m going to go 3-1 for Leeds and I think they’ll put in their best performance of the season.

“It’s a vast, wide-open pitch which will really suit Leeds. I can see them scoring goals.”

Leeds are owed a victory against Arsenal after losing 1-0 in the FA Cup last year in a thrilling encounter and drawing 0-0 in the reverse fixture in the Premier League.

Leeds dominated that game but couldn’t find a way to score.
