Elland Road expansion work start date emerges at Leeds United in new update

Leeds United will begin their expansion work on Elland Road once they earn promotion back to the Premier League, according to Mike McGrath.

The journalist reported via The Telegraph [3 October] that the Whites’ plans to increase the capacity of Elland Road by 15,355 will begin if Daniel Farke can lead the club to the top tier of English football this season.

Leeds are currently sitting in fifth place after eight matches of the 2024/25 campaign, just three points below league leaders Sunderland, and will be eager to put things right after missing out on promotion last term.

McGrath wrote: “It is understood the work on the expansion will start if they get out of the Championship and back into the big time.”

Leeds’ final game against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday 3 May 2025 holds plenty of potential for those at Elland Road and the stadium itself.

Of course, if Farke leads his team to the top of the Championship table, promotion could be theirs long before the league ends. On the other hand, fans could be made to wait if Leeds end up in the play-offs once again.

Following the play-off final heartbreak against Southampton at Wembley last season, fans will certainly hope their team can achieve the former feat, which will trigger the redevelopment plans at Elland Road.

One of Leeds’ biggest ambitions will be, not just to gain promotion to the Premier League, but to remain there as a regular competitor, and providing better facilities is just the start of that.

Elland Road is an extremely historic stadium in the world of football, one that many players dream of playing at, so those working on redevelopment must make sure not to strip away that history.
