Elia Caprile signs new contract at Leeds United

Leeds United have agreed a new contract with young goalkeeper Elia Caprile, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

The Italian outlet have reported the update on their website, with terms agreed for another three years at Elland Road.

Caprile will be in West Yorkshire until 2024 and will look to provide stiff competition for Illan Meslier.

It has been a great week for the goalkeeping setup.

Leeds first announced the signing of Kristoffer Klaesson from Valerenga over the weekend, replacing Kiko Casilla.

Now, Caprile looks to have secured his future in West Yorkshire, creating a group of goalkeepers with immense potential.

The young Italian started against Guiseley last week but was replaced by Dani van den Heuvel at Fleetwood.

Potential.

Caprile was one of the first to arrive at Elland Road around the time of Marcelo Bielsa signing on, and he keeps slowly progressing.

The Italian is yet to push into that senior side, despite making numerous appearances on the bench in the Premier League.

It is a big vote of confidence in the keeper though, who may have been disheartened by the arrival of Klaesson.

The Norwegian is set to provide the immediate competition for Meslier in the first-team squad, but this contract offers Caprile the chance to be in that conversation too.

Marcos Abad is now working with four young goalkeepers all with the potential to go to the very top, it is up to them to impress him.

Bielsa will be delighted with this news, and will continue to develop our younger players and give them the pathway to senior football – all they have to do is earn it.
