Leeds United could be in a heated transfer tug-of-war this summer for Hibernian defender Josh Doig.

That's according to the Daily Star, who report that the young talent could replace Ezgjan Alioski at Elland Road.

Junior Firpo has arrived as the new left-back, but with Stuart Dallas now pushed into midfield, another option could be necessary.

Writing in their live transfer blog, the Daily Star has predicted a heated battle for the defensive sensation.

"After experienced left-back Ezgjan Alioski departed Elland Road for Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli, United are now in the hunt for a new left-back to replace him," they wrote.

"Talented youngster Josh Doig is reported to have been identified as a potential replacement for the North Macedonian international.

"It is believed a bid of around £4-5 million has been agreed with two clubs; suggesting a transfer tug of war could be on the cards – Leeds could be one of those clubs involved."

Bargain?

Adam Leventhal reported this week that two unnamed clubs were close to agreeing that fee, but didn't suggest they had yet been accepted.

That appears to have changed based on this report, and it could be down to Doig to decide on his next move, which will be to the Premier League.

There aren't many better places for young players than Elland Road, with Bielsa showing a clear pathway into the first-team if you impress him enough.

With fees reportedly now agreed with numerous clubs, this one should really start to gather pace across the next week.

Doig will make his decision and then travel down from Edingburgh to complete medicals and his next contract.

Burnley and Watford are two of those in the race, as well as the Whites, and Leventhal insisted the latter of those were not one of the clubs discussing the fee as of yet.

That may have opened the door for the Whites, but we will have to see if they took advantage of it.
