Eddie Gray comments on Leeds ace after Bryn Law makes Revie squad comparison

Eddie Gray has heaped praise on Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi after Bryn Law made a bold comparison with the squad players available to Don Revie.

The LUTV commentator admitted that the composition of Revie’s famous squad was always similar, but that it had players who could come in and do a job for only one game – something Berardi has done this season.

Gray agreed and believes that the Swiss enforcer should be praised as he has done it at awkward times for the Whites this season.

The Leeds legend admitted that he has been impressed with Berardi and his change in attitude which has seen his famous disciplinary record improve massively.

“Very, very well – I mean the thing about it is, Berardi’s come into the side at an awkward time,” he told the Leeds United show.

“Things weren’t all sweetness and light, he comes into the side, you’ve conceded a few goals and he comes in and he does his job and he seems to have curtailed that extra bit of enthusiasm.

“He’s learned as well, although he’s an experienced player, there comes a time in your career where you say ‘I shouldn’t be doing that’ because I’m letting myself down, I’m letting the team down, I’m letting the manager down and I’m letting the supporters down.

“He’s done very, very well and defensively he doesn’t let people go short and turn him on the ball, he gets close to them, he’s always looking to niggle at them, put them under pressure and he’s done a great job.”

It is impossible to compare this squad with the famous Revie side, but it is also hard to ignore the similar sort of impact that Marcelo Bielsa has made at Elland Road.

Berardi definitely proved his worth in recent wins over Huddersfield and Middlesbrough in the Championship. The 31-year-old made five interceptions at the Riverside and then completed four clearances in the West Yorkshire derby – impressive [WhoScored].

The Swiss defender has been known as unreliable before, but that has been banished this season and many fans are calling for him to be rewarded with a new contract this season.
