Eddie Gray picks standout Leeds duo, claims one playing best football since joining Whites
Eddie Gray has selected Leeds United duo Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas as the players that have impressed him the most this season as Elland Road.
The Whites legend admitted that most people may instantly pick out players such as Pablo Hernandez, but he would rather applaud the defensive players.
Leeds were on a five-match unbeaten run with five consecutive clean-sheets before the enforced Coronavirus break put a halt to action in the Championship.
Gray was particularly impressed with Dallas, claiming he is playing the best football he has ever played since arriving from Brentford.
“There’s two players that have impressed me most,” he said on the Leeds United Show.
“You always talk about Pablo and your creative players, but the two players, I think that have got on top of their game and are driving the team on are the two full-backs.

“Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas. I think Stuart Dallas is playing the best football he’s played since he came to this club. I think he’s suited to that position, coming from behind the play – I know he started as a wide player, he’s played midfield but, for me, his best position is either playing at left-back or right-back.”
There is no hiding the fact that Marcelo Bielsa has transformed the Northern Ireland international since he arrived at the club.
Dallas will have been used to being on the bench at Elland Road – very much a squad player. Now, he is one of Leeds’ key men, and without him at left-back, the Whites struggle both defensively and going forward.
The 28-year-old has been everywhere for the Whites. Only Kalvin Phillips has made more tackles per game according to WhoScored, as well as averaging more shots than the likes of Helder Costa.
