‘Didn’t work out’ – Phil Hay details collapsed talks with Premier League side over friendly
Leeds United held talks with Premier League side Everton over a potential friendly ahead of the Championship restart, according to Phil Hay.
The Athletic journalist shared that talks didn’t work out with the Toffees, as both the Premier League and Championship restart next week.
Everton take on Liverpool in the Merseyside derby on the same Sunday as Leeds make the trip to Cardiff City.
Hay also confirmed that Leeds were playing a friendly amongst themselves at Thorp Arch, as Mateusz Klich was pictured wearing the full away-kit.
“They did discuss one with Everton but it didn’t work out,” Hay shared on his personal Twitter account.
With only a week left until the leagues restart, it is unlikely that Leeds will be playing any other clubs in the next few days.
Marcelo Bielsa has been putting his squad through their paces with multiple murderball sessions, and from the videos put online, it was non-stop action.
Championship title rivals West Brom have played both Aston Villa and Manchester United, picking up impressive results against both.
Brentford have also beaten Arsenal, and it is unknown whether or not that will give those two an advantage over the Whites.
There is no denying that playing a side such as Everton would have been great preparation for Leeds, but we’re still confident that they will leave no stone unturned in the next week.
