Dean Jones: Valentin Castellanos now one to keep an eye on at Leeds United after major Brenden Aaronson transfer

New York City FC talisman Valentin Castellanos is now “one to watch” for Leeds United after the deal for Brenden Aaronson was confirmed on Thursday [26 May].

That’s according to Dean Jones, who has hinted that the Whites could already be moving on to another target ahead of a busy summer window ahead.

Castellanos has been heavily linked with the Whites before, but there is now a real want for a new striker as Victor Orta gets to work already.

Speaking to GIVE ME SPORT, Jones shared another name that is one to watch with more transfers expected at Elland Road in the coming weeks.

“New signing Brenden Aaronson was the long-term primary target and there will be links with other US-based players, with the name of New York City FC’s Valentin Castellanos one to keep an eye on,” he wrote.

“He’s a 23-year-old Argentine forward and already boasts 53 career goals for NYCFC.”

Leeds United

Here we go.

Wow, Leeds are really going into overdrive.

Bringing in Castellanos could be a perfect move for the Whites given how badly things have gone in the final third.

The Argentinian already scoring over 50 goals for New York City shows that he knows where the back of the net is, and an out-and-out finisher is something we have lacked for years.

Patrick Bamford is not reliable enough now after his injury shockers this season, playing only nine games, and having no central option behind him has been a huge concern.

Castellanos coming in would be the perfect answer to that and coming from the MLS, Andrea Radrizzani wouldn’t need to break the bank and the 49ers Enterprises would certainly back it.

Leeds need another goal machine without most likely spending huge amounts, so this is certainly one that we will be keeping an eye on in the coming weeks and months.
