Dean Jones shares update on Phillips Leeds United exit amid Aston Villa interest in Bissouma

Aston Villa are reportedly set to target Leeds United ace Kalvin Phillips and Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma.

According to Eurosport journalist Dean Jones, they will not be signing both this summer and would just look to bring in one of the two midfielders.

Phillips has been linked with a move to Villa Park in the past and is believed to still be on their radar.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones said, “I think they’ll go for both players, but I only expect them to sign one. I’ll be very surprised if they got both of those players through the door.”

Play hard ball

If Leeds play hard ball for Phillips and keep driving up his price, there’s no way Villa will retain their interest in him.

The England international does not seem keen on leaving Elland Road this summer, unlike Raphinha who appears hell-bent on joining Barcelona.

Villa, despite their billionaire owners, do not have the lure and revenues of European football to offer Leeds.

That means it will take something significant for them to break their transfer record this summer.

Should they want Phillips, the Whites will surely demand a fee that will break the record £34.56miilion they paid for Emiliano Buendia last summer.

Bissouma clearly is the cheaper alternative and rather than wasting too much time on an unassailable target, Steven Gerrard could advise the board to rope in the Brighton star.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are leading the race to complete a major signing and have already opened talks to seal a £25m deal.
