David Wagner makes Josh Sargent injury admission ahead of Leeds United clash v Norwich City
Norwich City manager David Wagner has shared an update on Josh Sargent’s injury, admitting he expects him to be to face Leeds United at Elland Road.
Daniel Farke’s side were unable to pick up a lead in the first leg of their playoff semi-final at Carrow Road on Sunday (12 May) drawing 0-0 with the Canaries to leave the tie in the balance ahead of the return fixture.
Wagner’s side make the trip to Yorkshire on Thursday (16 May) and there had been fears Sargent could miss the clash having limped off in the closing exchanges of Sunday’s game, but he expects his star man to return.
As quoted by the Pink Un’s Paddy Davitt on X (12 May) he said: “It’s the ankle. but I expect him to be fit for the second leg.”
Will Josh Sargent be fit to start for Norwich City in playoff clash v Leeds United?
Leeds United and Farke would have ideally liked to have left Carrow Road with a lead, but considering the Whites’ recent poor form in the Championship, a draw away from home could well prove to be an excellent result.
That result would have been even better had Sargent also picked up a major injury as the American forward is a key part of Wagner’s side at Carrow Road. In just 26 matches this season, the Canaries star has scored 16 goals.
Leeds have been hit by their own injury problems in recent weeks and while they have been boosted by the return of Dan James and Connor Roberts in recent weeks, they will be without Patrick Bamford for the all-important Elland Road showdown.
Farke’s side never look particularly effective going forward when the Englishman doesn’t start. The Whites boss will therefore be looking to the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter to lead the line and get Leeds over the line.
Hopefully, no matter who featured for either side, the Whites will book their place at Wembley and keep their hopes of an immediate return to the Premier League alive.
