David Prutton delivers ‘fatal blow’ judgement about Luis Sinisterra Leeds United exit

Former Leeds United midfielder David Prutton has claimed Luis Sinisterra’s deadline day exit from Elland Road will not be a “fatal blow” to the club, although time will tell.

The Sky Sports pundit stated that Sinisterra is one of a number of Leeds players who have left the club this summer whose performances were patchy for the Whites, despite their obvious talent.

He described his exit as “unfortunate” but claimed it would not be the end of the world as far as Leeds fans should be concerned, and shouldn’t change the fate of the club in the coming season.

Writing in his column for the Yorkshire Evening Post on 9 September, Prutton claimed: “Will he be a big miss? I don’t know and time will tell. But he is another one in a revolving door of players that have come and gone so if I was a Leeds United fan I wouldn’t be too put out of joint.

“It’s a blow and someone has got to step up now. Sinisterra has been like a few players who have gone through the exit door at Leeds in being good on their day.

“But those days were few and far between and there’s many that you could put in that bracket. Given what he is capable of, his departure is unfortunate but it’s a far from fatal blow to what Leeds do this season.”

A tough summer, but the club can only keep moving forwards

There was a mass exodus of star players leaving Elland Road over the summer following the relegation from the Premier League, with Sinisterra adding to a list of 15 exiting players, which also included stars such as Tyler Adams, Robin Koch and Rodrigo.

After so many players moving on, it was always going to be a tough start to the season, with a refreshed squad and a new manager still getting to know each other and adapting to a new style of play and new expectations.

For Leeds, they can only continue to move forward despite the exits. There is nothing that can be done about it now with the transfer window closed, so it’s not worth dwelling on the past and asking questions like “What if we kept this player or that player?” Farke will deal with the squad he has.

The expectation is that Leeds achieve promotion at the first time of asking after suffering relegation last time out, and that pressure can weigh heavy on the shoulders, but Farke has experienced it before and will know what’s best for his players, so faith should be placed in him.
