David Norris: Only a matter of time before Leeds United announce new Marcelo Bielsa contract
Marcelo Bielsa has agreed a new contract at Elland Road and it’s only a “matter of time” before it’s confirmed, according to ex-Leeds United midfielder David Norris.
In his first season in the Premier League, Bielsa led the Whites to an amazing ninth-placed finish.
However, the Argentine hasn’t committed himself to more than one year at a time as the Leeds manager.
But there’s no need to hold any fears about Bielsa leaving as Norris has heard from his former club that an announcement is due soon.
“It didn’t look like he was ever looking to move or was biding his time to see if anything better was out there. It was just never on his list of priorities,” Norris told Football Transfer Tavern.
“I’ve heard from inside that he has already agreed on a new deal so that’s just a matter of time now before that comes out, and that’s a massive signing for Leeds because it lets everyone just relax over the summer knowing that he isn’t going to leave.”
Viva El Loco
Bielsa is a Leeds legend.
You don’t get to say that normally about someone who’s yet to leave the club but there’s absolutely no denying this man is one of the greatest managers to ever step foot in Elland Road.
He’s rescued us from the Championship and asserted our authority on the Premier League at the first available opportunity.
With Bielsa in charge, the only way is up and we’d be disappointed if we don’t finish above ninth in the Premier League next season.
We’re not going to start demanding European football because we know it’s going to be a lot harder to grow from this position than it was the position of last season, the season before that and the season before that.
But with Bielsa in charge, almost anything is possible.
There will come a point where Andrea Radrizzani will have to find a new man to lead the Yorkshire giants but for now, it really sounds as though Bielsa’s staying for at least another year.
