Leeds United ace Patrick Bamford should be 'Disgusted' by England squad
Max Rushden agrees that Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford is the closest thing England have to a Harry Kane replacement.
On Tuesday, it was confirmed that Bamford, 27, will not be representing England at the European Championships in the summer.
Kane [23] is the only Englishman to score more goals in the Premier League than Bamford [17] this season yet the Leeds striker has been beaten to a spot in Gareth Southgate’s provisional squad by Ollie Watkins and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
After the announcement was made, a furious Leicester City fan phoned talkSPORT to complain about Bamford’s snub.
As shown in a clip on talkSPORT’s Twitter account, Matt said: “Bamford should be disgusted with that announcement. And for me personally – and I know people aren’t going to agree with this – but style of play-wise, he’s the closest thing we have to Kane,”
TalkSPORT host Rushden then replied: “No, I agree with that.”
Matt continued: “If Kane gets injured, we don’t have to completely change the style of play by bringing someone else in like a Watkins or a Calvert-Lewin.”
😡 “Patrick Bamford should be disgusted with that squad announcement.”

Spot on
Even though he’s a Leicester fan, Matt has absolutely hit the nail on the head.
What have Watkins and Calvert-Lewin really done to win a call-up over Bamford? All we can suggest is that Southgate prefers Aston Villa’s Watkins because of a potential Jack Grealish link-up and Everton’s Calvert-Lewin is in the squad because he’s got some caps already.
But Bamford, as the talkSPORT caller said, is so much more similar to Kane than both of those and Kane is the man who England’s attack is centred around.
Bamford has not only shown he’s a great finisher this season but he’s also superb at linking up with fellow attackers.
The Leeds forward has done superbly well alongside Raphinha and Jack Harrison this season – even Tyler Roberts.
Imagine what he could do in an attack with Grealish, Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling or Phil Foden.
If Kane gets injured or suspended then we’ll have to rely on strikers who will cause the system to be changed and that isn’t a great idea.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have tabled a bid to sign an EFL player that involved a swap.
