David Norris: Leeds United fans would be excited if Noni Madueke is signed

Leeds United have been linked with PSV ace Noni Madueke and David Norris believes signing him would excite the fans.

The Evening Standard reported in March that the Elland Road outfit are keeping tabs on the 19-year-old but they face stiff competition for his signature.

Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund also want Madueke, but PSV are not likely to part ways with their winger unless their demands are met.

Norris reckons landing Madueke would get Leeds fans on the edge of their seats, telling This Is Futbol: “I think he would excite the Leeds fans.

“I have spoken to a couple of fans and, just after mentioning his name, they were both saying they would love to get him in.

“He’s composed on the ball and looks a talent. I think the fans would like that one.”

Not needed

Madueke’s talents cannot be denied after the teenage sensation ended last season with nine goals and six assists across all competitions for the Eredivisie side.

However, Leeds are not in urgent need of an attacker, with central midfield the main department we are looking to strengthen this summer.

With left-back already sorted following the arrival of Junior Firpo from Barcelona after Gjanni Alioski’s exit, the club could be wrapping up transfer business for this summer once a midfielder is landed.

Jack Harrison, Raphinha and Patrick Bamford have established themselves as head coach Marcelo Bielsa’s first-choice options in attack, with Rodrigo, Helder Costa, Tyler Roberts and Ian Carlo-Poveda providing cover and competition off the bench.

Leeds are likely to promote one or two forwards from the under-23s to the senior team next season, and we do not see the need to splash the cash on another attacker.

Madueke moving to Elland Road this summer is not on the cards from the look of things, and it would not come as a surprise if only one first-team player is signed during the remainder of the summer transfer window.
