Kalvin Phillips reacts as Barry Douglas joins Lech Poznan after Leeds exit

Barry Douglas has rejoined Polish side Lech Poznan after leaving Leeds United last month.

The 31-year-old joined the Elland Road outfit from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2018, but was injured during most of his time in West Yorkshire.

Douglas spent last season on loan with Blackburn Rovers and has returned to Poland after his three-year deal with Leeds expired.

The left-back took to his personal Instagram account to announce his Poznan return, and Whites star Kalvin Phillips has sent him his best wishes.

“Good luck my friend,” Phillips wrote.

Unlucky Douglas

The full-back ended his last season at Wolves with five goals and 14 assists in 39 Championship games, but things went south for him upon joining us.

Injuries limited Douglas to just 27 league games in 2018-19 and 15 league games in 2019-20.

Leeds were robbed of seeing such a player in his best shape and form, and we could have had one of the best left-backs in the Premier League last term had he remained fit all through his first two seasons at Elland Road.

Despite returning to full fitness, Douglas was not able to recover his old impressive form at Blackburn, and hopefully, things will improve for him in Poland.

Injuries denied Leeds of his quality, and that is one of the cruel aspects of the game.

We have since brought in Junior Firpo as our new number three, and all eyes are on the former Barcelona left-back ahead of the new campaign.

Douglas was on the verge of establishing himself as a regular for the Scotland international team before injury struck, and it remains to be seen whether an impressive spell with Poznan could help get his career back on track.
