David Norris: Adama Traore could be perfect for Leeds United
Leeds United have been linked with Wolves star Adama Traore, and David Norris has urged them to sign him.
EuroSport claimed earlier this month that the Whites remain keen on signing him and are ready to pay about half of Wolves’ £80million asking price.
Leeds director of football Victor Orta signed Traore for Middlesbrough while at the club, later saying the Barcelona academy graduate “can be the most exciting prospect now in Spain” [Birmingham Mail].
The Spain international struggled last term and has featured in just 14 minutes at the European Championship, but Norris believes signing him is a gamble worth taking.
“I think that’s the type of player Leeds should be going for as he’s proven it in the Premier League and I don’t think that would be so much of a risk,” the former Whites star told Football Transfer Tavern.
“If he can get consistency, then he can be a world-class player and I think he is the type of player that if the price is right, could be a good signing for Leeds.”
The price isn’t right
Leeds do not need another winger right now, and we would not be spending £40million on one even if we do.
Traore is arguably the most explosive winger in the Premier League, but his finishing has often let him down.
The 25-year-old scored just twice and assisted twice in 37 Premier League games last term, and he is worth at most £15million based on that return.
Indeed, he has all the makings of a world-beater, but head coach Marcelo Bielsa has more than enough attacking midfielders in his ranks.
Leeds are looking to bolster their squad with a central midfielder and left-back this summer, and the club have been focused on players in those positions instead.
We need players that can help improve us, and Traore does not look like one.
He is a good player but is not good enough for what we want right now.
