David Moyes backed to be Leeds United manager as Daniel Farke sack verdict emerges

Simon Jordan has backed David Moyes to take on the Leeds United job but admits that he doesn’t want to see Daniel Farke sacked at Elland Road.

The Whites manager has come under pressure from sections of the support following Leeds’ start to the season, particularly following their 3-0 defeat to Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup.

Leeds were booed by the Elland Road crowd at the full-time whistle, but talkSPORT host Jordan believes the German needs to be given more than two games before his position is called into question.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday (15 August, 10:15) he said: “We’re one game into a season. We can’t all of a sudden have our mouths drop about Ryan Lowe leaving Preston after one game and start the rah-rah about Leeds fans being dissatisfied with Farke one game into the season or two.

“It’s a big job. It’s the sort of job that I could see David Moyes doing. He has no need to sprint back in because his currency is relatively high and there are only so many opportunities where he’s going to find his way into the Premier League.

“But a club like Leeds which is geared in terms of scale and size to being in the Premier League is something I would imagine, if the conditions are right and Daniel Farke runs his course, which I hope he doesn’t, then someone like Moyes would be a fit for Leeds.

“Whether they like his brand of football is a different discussion, but for David, you’ve got this huge football club which could potentially meet the scale of a football club he could see himself managing.

“That would be a reasonable shout.”

Will Leeds United sack Daniel Farke and appoint David Moyes?

As Jordan suggests, it would be incredibly naive and short-sighted of Leeds United to sack Farke after only two games of the new season, especially when one of those games was in the League Cup.

Yes, the first two displays of the season have left a lot to be desired, but the German has been managing with one hand behind his back having lost two of his best players from last year in Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray.

Partner that with the impending departure of Georginio Rutter and the lack of additions and it shouldn’t come as a surprise to see the Whites starting the season slower than most pundits and fans expected.

If the poor form continues and those at the top of the football club decide a change of manager is needed, maybe then Moyes would be a good fit following his West Ham and Premier League exit.

But that decision cannot be made at this stage of the season. Farke simply has to be given time to get the new campaign up and running in the next few weeks.
