Darren Bent states if Leeds would have beaten PSG last night as Liverpool fans hype Bielsa-ball

Leeds United have picked up a lot of fans in Liverpool after their opening day 4-3 thriller – and both sets of supporters obviously have a common enemy.

Man United made a statement of their own in the Champions League last night with a 2-1 win over PSG but Liverpool fans weren’t having any of it.

One phoned the Sports Bar after the game to play down the United win, saying, “I think you’re going a bit too overboard. The Paris side is terrible… even Leeds United would go and beat them there.”

Darren Bent responded on the Breakfast show (talkSPORT, Wednesday, 9.30am) but said he thought PSG was a “notch too far” for Leeds.

“They [PSG] were missing three crucial players last night, Icardi, Verratti and Marquinhos who was on the bench,” Bent said.

“Three big players but that team that played last night was awful. Take Neymar and Mbappé out of the side and it wasn’t a good performance.

“Man United did well. As far as him saying Leeds could beat that PSG side, I’m not sure about that.”

Another Liverpool fan was on the line and interrupted at this point saying, “Why not? Why couldn’t the Leeds that performed against Liverpool and Man City beat that PSG side?”

Bent said, “For me I just can’t see Leeds beating PSG, containing Neymar and Mbappé, I think they would be a notch too far for them.”

Leeds for the Champions League?

We’re absolutely loving the fact that Leeds are getting talked about in these conversations.

The Liverpool fans seem to be convinced that we’ve got what it takes to play at the highest level in Europe.

We’re sure that Bielsa will get Leeds there but it might take a few years.

As for taking on PSG, we honestly believe that if Leeds play at their absolute peak then they’re more than a match for anyone in Europe right now.

Man United fans might scoff but Man City would have been favourites to beat PSG last night and Leeds matched Pep’s side step-for-step in the Premier League.

Leeds play their best against attacking sides and few have the energy to go toe-to-toe with the Whites players.

Wolves are a different case altogether. Leeds don’t play at their best against teams that contain and look to counter and Nuno is the master of those tactics.

PSG? Bring them on.
