Darko Gyabi tipped to get Leeds United first-team opportunity after Tyler Adams injury - Joe Donnohue
Talented Leeds youngster Darko Gyabi has been tipped to get a first-team opportunity following Tyler Adams’ recent hamstring injury by journalist Joe Donnohue.
The American international picked up the issue in training and missed the 4-2 win over Wolves (18 March), with information about the severity of the injury sparse so far.
But as Gyabi turned out for the Under-21’s side once again as they claimed a 3-1 win over Sunderland (19 March), Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Donnohue was quick to single him out for praise and suggested he could get a chance under Javi Gracia if Adams is out for an extended period of time.
“Darko Gyabi having another one of those games,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (19 March).
“PL2 Div 2 isn’t the standard he should be facing, but you can only play what’s in front of you.
“Regardless, bossing matches and making it look easy won’t do him any harm, especially if Tyler Adams is out for a lengthy period.”

There were a lot of understandable question marks among Leeds fans last summer when the club moved to bring Gyabi into the club as part of the deal that saw Kalvin Phillips go to Manchester City.
He had zero first-team experience and wasn’t even one of the stand-out players in their academy, like Romeo Lavia who is now shining for Southampton in the Premier League.
But Gyabi has shown fantastic qualities and skills at Leeds, and when he has played for the first-team on the odd occasion this season he has never looked out of place.
At some point he will need to be given a chance to prove he is god enough to be here and playing in the Premier League, and with Marc Roca’s form far from what was expected and Adams potentially out for a while with a hamstring problem, there is no better time than now.
Obviously a relegation battle is a hard thing to just walk in to and start playing well, but some players thrive in that situation and we won’t know about Gyabi’s level until we give it a try.
He’s worked hard and earned his shot, now we should trust him and give him a go.
