Daniel Farke makes Max Wober admission after Leeds United transfer decision

Daniel Farke has admitted it will take more than one good game for Max Wober to win back the support of the Leeds United fanbase.

The 26-year-old has decided to stay at Elland Road this season having jumped ship midway through last summer’s transfer window following the Whites’ relegation from the Premier League.

Wober and US international Brendan Aaronson have both been jeered by sections of the Leeds support in pre-season matches and Farke admits that it will take time for the fans to begin to back the Austrian international.

As quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post (8 August) he said: “In the first days [Max] was a bit careful not to be too loud within the group, but you got the feeling, especially the training camp it was beneficial.

“[It was the plan to] sit together and speak how was your experience after three weeks of training but he came straight away and knocked on my office and said boss sorry am I allowed to come in, listen I don’t want to wait until the three weeks I want to say I’m totally convinced, I want to be here.

“After a difficult season before and being out on loan, same with Brenden, one good game is not enough to win back the hearts and trust of supporters.

“But he has been top class in training, he has my backing. They will need a few weeks to get to 100 per cent but I get the feeling they can play a really important part.

“They’re desperate to prove themselves. It’s a good basement. But right now the real stuff starts, actions are louder than words.”

Will Max Wober exit Leeds United after Elland Road reaction?

Leeds United supporters are well within their rights to be slightly frustrated with Wober heading into the new season as the defender did leave them in the lurch on the eve of last year’s campaign.

However, if Farke has decided he has what it takes to play a part this term and he has genuinely recognised his mistake, it is only right that he is given a clean slate to once again prove himself at Elland Road.

He may not have shown the best of his abilities during his time in the Premier League, but during his time on loan in the Bundesliga and his couple of appearances in the Euros, he showed that he still can perform at a good level.

Football fans’ memories tend to be short and if Wober is able to help the Whites kickstart another promotion push, supporters will begin to back him once again.

But as Farke says, it isn’t going to be a quick process and the Austrian international is going to have to do his talking on the pitch because “actions are louder than words”.
