Daniel Farke makes Jurgen Klopp admission after Red Bull update away from Leeds United

Daniel Farke has admitted that Jurgen Klopp’s appointment at Red Bull is unlikely to impact Leeds United majorly.

The former Liverpool manager has taken up a new role with the Whites’ shareholders that will see him oversee coaching as he advises the teams across the energy drink giant’s multi-club model [talkSPORT, 9 October].

While there has been some speculation around how Klopp’s new position will impact the Whites, Farke insists that Leeds remain their own club away from the wider Red Bull umbrella.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday (16 October) he said: “Not directly, because he was announced by Red Bull.

“There are obviously a few Red Bull teams like in Leipzig, Salzburg, New York and so on. We are Leeds United and for that it is clear, he has a big impact on the Red Bull clubs and for us not that much.

“We are Leeds United and I think no one of our supporters would allow us to try and copy something or follow a similar philosophy. We are a pretty unique club and also have our own values, principles philosophy, our own way that we want to play.

“As far as I know, this is exactly what the 49ers are standing for. They know how special this club is and they don’t want to copy someone else and for that, we will always be Leeds United.”

How does Jurgen Klopp’s new job impact Leeds United at Elland Road?

While receiving advice from Klopp would of course be excellent for Leeds and Farke, it is good to see that the Whites’ way of playing won’t be compromised because of developments away from Elland Road.

Leeds United remain its own club and while Red Bull are investors and stakeholders, they are not the Whites’ owners and it would be a shame if their identity was forced in any way onto Farke and his side.

If what the Whites boss has said is correct, Klopp may be available for advice in the event of an emergency at Elland Road, but he won’t be coming into Thorp Arch and changing the entire tactical set-up of the team in his new role.

All in all, this feels like a win-win scenario for Leeds on the whole. Farke and the 49ers seem committed to maintaining Leeds’ identity as a football club and while they are both in their positions at Elland Road, that seems unlikely to change.
