Daniel Farke amazed by 'unbelievable' Luke Ayling despite benching him in Leeds United v Norwich City
Daniel Farke was amazed by Luke Ayling’s “unbelievable leadership” before, during and after the match between Leeds United and Norwich City.
The right-back entered the Championship clash at Carrow Road on Saturday (21 October) as a 90th-minute substitute.
The Whites won the match 3-2, with Crysencio Summerville scoring twice and Shane Duffy scoring an own goal for the hosts.
As quoted by Leeds Live (21 October), Farke said after the match: “Luke showed unbelievable leadership so really, I love my whole group and I am tempted to play them all, but two thirds of the squad you have to disappoint each game so let’s see who we choose for the next game.”
Still crucial
Ayling may not have been key to the club’s super win at Carrow Road, but there is no doubt that he remains crucial to the picture at the Elland Road side this season.
Farke needs to chop and change his starting XI constantly in order to keep up with the busy schedule of the Championship.
It was, however, a surprise that Ayling was overlooked by Farke for youngster Archie Gray at right-back, despite the teenager playing three times for England Under-19s during the recent international break.
The manager needs all of his players on top form at all times, and it may just be that Ayling gets the nod from the first whistle against Stoke City on Wednesday (25 October).
A real team effort is needed to gain promotion to the Premier League, and Ayling will definitely have his time in the limelight under the German as the months go on.
