Crysencio Summerville still has part to play at Leeds United as transfer news emerges

Leeds United may be resigned to losing Crysencio Summerville this summer following relegation, but the Whites must resist all potential interest in the forward.

The Elland Road sensation signed a new contract until 2026 last summer and was handed the number ten shirt following Raphinha’s inevitable exit to Barcelona, becoming a regular feature in the team.

Despite the Whites’ disappointing relegation to the Championship, the 21-year-old still enjoyed something of a breakthrough season scoring four goals and two assists from 28 Premier League games.

And according to the Yorkshire Evening Post [31 May], the Dutch youngster is expected to leave the club during the summer window now with Graham Smyth admitting there’s a “good chance he’ll be off”.

Also, according to Phil Hay, writing for The Athletic [1 June], Crystal Palace and Bournemouth as well as several European clubs are currently monitoring his situation ahead of a potential bid this summer.

It’s no secret that Leeds United will be undergoing plenty of change during the off-season which the West Yorkshire club resigned to losing a number of their key stars because of the ending of their three-year Premier League tenure.

With star players such as Wilfried Gnonto, Jack Harrison, Tyler Adams, and Rodrigo all almost guaranteed to be targeted by top clubs this summer and an exit seemingly inevitable, Leeds should be doing everything they can to keep Summerville at Elland Road.

This season in the Premier League the 21-year-old managed four goals and two assists from 12 starts, but there were plenty of substitute appearances too that showed he isn’t quite the finished article yet.

The Championship has proven a crucial tool for up-and-coming stars in the past and given the amount of talent Leeds United could be potentially losing before the 2023/24 campaign kicks off means they simply cannot afford to lose a player of Summerville’s potential.

The Whites must hand the player a future incentive or guarantee to ensure he remains at Elland Road next season.

A year in the Championship as the main man of the attack could really aid his development and maturity, and he has also shown on plenty of occasions that he is good enough to be that man to take the club back to the Premier League.

With three years still remaining on his current deal, Leeds United may well be tempted to cash in and accept a big-money fee but Summerville holds all the qualities, potential and class to become a future star, something the Whites cannot afford to lose out on.

Should he succeed in the Championship next season, his stock may well increase even further with a big-money move certainly on the horizon for the Dutch talent. But for now, Leeds United must ensure his immediate future remains in West Yorkshire, he still has a massive part to play in their rebuild.
