Leeds United players want Sam Allardyce to stay on as manager in Championship

Leeds United players want Sam Allardyce to stay on as manager in the Championship, but the final decision will be with the 49ers according to The Sun.

The Whites were relegated after three-years in the top flight with Allardyce at the helm for the final four games and unable to prevent it.

But according to The Sun (31 May) he made a big impression on the players and they would be happy for him to stick around for the 2023/24 season, but no decision will be made for at least two weeks while Andrea Radrizzani and the 49ers look to seal a takeover deal.

“Sam Allardyce managed Leeds for just four games but if the players have their way, he will continue at Elland Road,” they wrote.

“While this remains a possibility, the club is in limbo until Andrea Radrizzani finally sells it to the owners of the San Francisco 49ers.

“It seems the situation could take another two weeks to get sorted.”

Yikes

Leeds simply don’t have two weeks to wait for this whole mess to get sorted out, with plans needing to be in motion immediately to get ready for the Championship.

Radrizzani has already moved on by reaching an agreement to buy Sampdoria this week, and that should accelerate the takeover process now.

But the manager situation needs to be addressed quickly, because if Allardyce isn’t looking to stick around or the board don’t want him to be in charge then the process to find his successor needs to take place.

There are big changes that need to happen but we can’t wait around for things to take place, they need to be dealt with to ensure we have the best chance of getting back to the Premier League at the earliest possible opportunity.

If the players want Allardyce then that has to be considered, and he has a good record in the Championship, but it should also be considered that a lot of these players may not stick around next season either.

In other Leeds news, another star is expected to depart Elland Road according to Phil Hay.
