Crysencio Summerville 'serious doubt' for Leeds United v Monaco, Junior Firpo also questionable

Crysencio Summerville is a “serious doubt” for Leeds United’s final winter friendly clash against AS Monaco on Wednesday night (21 December).

The Dutch winger was forced off quickly into the first friendly against Elche and hasn’t featured since, and with initial reports claiming that he would be okay for the Manchester City clash next week that may now be an issue.

According to Yorkshire Evening Post (20 December) he is a serious doubt from his ankle problem while left-back Junior Firpo is also a doubt for the game.

“Diego Llorente is questionable as he works his way back from hand surgery, while Crysencio Summerville is a serious doubt following an ankle injury, and this one may come a little too soon for him,” they wrote.

“The same could be said of Junior Firpo, who is also a doubt.”

Leeds have had a lot of injury problems this season, especially in defence, so Firpo’s injury is not going to come as a shock to anyone.

But Summerville really took the Premier League and senior football by storm when he got into the team earlier this season, hitting four goals in four games before the World Cup break.

Now though his absence is likely to be really felt because of Patrick Bamford’s continued injury issues, and the struggling form of the likes of Jack Harrison and Brenden Aaronson.

There is still over a week to go until the Whites are back in action against Manchester City, and the game will be incredibly difficult regardless of if everyone is fit or not.

But the best chance of a result is to have your best performers fit, and after his showing against Liverpool at Anfield where he got the winner he simply can’t be ignored. All eyes now go to his recovery and everyone will have their fingers crossed he’s okay.
