Crysencio Summerville to recover as Leeds United news finally drops
Leeds United attacker Crysencio Summerville is expected to recover from his ankle injury and feature against Manchester City in the Premier League, according to Sportsmail.
Summerville picked up the untimely injury during the Whites’ 2-1 win over Elche in Spain on 8 December and was later pictured in a protective boot.
The Dutch attacker burst onto the scene at Elland Road following his dramatic late winner against Liverpool and followed this up with goals in consecutive games against Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur.
However, speaking to Sportsmail in an exclusive interview, the 21-year-old outlined how long he expected to be out injured.
Journalist David Coverdale wrote: “That is bound to be the case again on December 28 when Manchester City visit Elland Road, with fans having been starved of home Premier League action for seven weeks.
“Summerville is expected to recover from the ankle injury to feature against the champions.”
The news that Summerville will likely return for Jesse Marsch against Manchester City is a huge boost for all those involved with the club.
The winger has been superb for the Whites this season, scoring four goals in four games before the World Cup break.
Summerville was a pivotal cog in the dramatic wins over Liverpool and Bournemouth, and having him back for the festive period adds another dimension to Leeds’ attacking options.
Brenden Aaronson, Willy Gnonto, Rodrigo and Jack Harrison are all likely to be fighting for spots in the starting XI, but if Summerville is fully fit, he could just supplant them all and force his way into Marsch’s plans against the champions.
If he isn’t quite 100% fit though, Leeds shouldn’t rush him straight back into the side, as a long-term injury to the Dutchman could prove terminal.
Wrap him up in cotton wool over Christmas and then unleash him on Manchester City.
