Craig Hope: Newcastle set for major recruitment meeting this week, Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips on agenda

Newcastle are set for a major transfer meeting this week with Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips on the agenda, according to Craig Hope.

The Daily Mail journalist has shared the major update with the Magpies’ mega-rich owners looking to take the next step this summer.

Phillips is said to have held crunch talks with Andrea Radrizzani over a new contract, which looks likely once the season is over.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Hope shared what to expect from the St James’ Park hierarchy this week.

“Also detail of Newcastle recruitment meetings as summer plans are discussed this week – GK, CB, CM, W, CF all on list,” he wrote.

“Among outfield names mentioned to us; J Gvardiol, L Kelly, Y Bissouma, K Phillips, B Johnson, M Diaby, D Calvert-Lewin, D Nunez, P Schick and A Isak.”

Promises.

Newcastle may have all of the money in the world, literally, but they are wasting their time with having Phillips on this list.

Born and bred in Leeds, the Yorkshire Pirlo has no intentions to leave the club and will hopefully sign that new contract sooner rather than later.

Jesse Marsch will have been making it his priority to nail down the likes of Phillips, so he can build his side around him.

Saturday should be a monumental day for both player and club, with his near four-month injury lay-off set to end.

Leeds will welcome Southampton to Elland Road and could have Phillips to come up against from the first whistle.

A strong end to the season and a new contract would not only secure his future on big wages but also catapult Phillips back into the England squad ahead of the World Cup.
