Connor Roberts sends Leeds United message as permanent transfer decision made

Connor Roberts has sent a message to Leeds United after it was confirmed he would be returning to Burnley at the end of his loan spell.

The Welshman arrived at Elland Road on loan during the January transfer window, supplying cover at right-back for Daniel Farke as Leeds failed in their pursuit of Premier League promotion.

The Clarets confirmed that Roberts would be returning to Turf Moor at the end of the season, but was still involved in the Whites’ trip to Wembley Stadium for the Championship play-off final.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday (28 May), he wrote: “Football ey… Obviously, so disappointed not to achieve what we all wanted, but honestly what a massive privilege it was to play just a handful of games and be involved at this incredible Football Club.

“An invaluable experience and something I’ll remember forever. Thanks for the spectacular support ladies and gents.”

Connor Roberts sends farewell message as Leeds United exit confirmed

Despite only making two Championship starts during his six-month spell at Elland Road, Roberts became an integral part of the squad, especially joining up with his international teammates.

With Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon and Dan James already at the club, the 28-year-old settled into life in West Yorkshire seamlessly and was a very welcomed addition, especially from the bench.

It is very important for fans not to fall in love with loan players, though this is made all the more difficult when they are as charismatic as Roberts is.

While the club would very much like to have a couple of loan players back next season, especially Tottenham’s Rodon, the financial situation will make this much harder as the summer transfer window approaches.

Even despite Roberts’ farewell message, that is not to say that this is the last time we see the full-back at Elland Road. Only time will tell who returns to Yorkshire in future transfer windows.
