Connor Roberts reacts to latest Leeds United contract news after announcement

Leeds United star Sam Byram was congratulated by ex-loanee Connor Roberts on Instagram following his contract extension.

Byram posted on Instagram having triggered a one-year extension clause in his Whites contract, featuring a photo which showed him catching West Brom defender Darnell Furlong with a stray elbow.

Roberts, who was on loan at Elland Road between February and the end of the season, was a fan of Byram posting that particular photo and congratulated him on the contract extension news.

“Third photo is a joy, congrats Samuel sir,” he wrote.

Could Connor Roberts make Leeds United return?

Leeds’ failure to achieve promotion from the Championship, losing 1-0 to Southampton with Roberts making a late cameo at Wembley, restricts their ability to broker big-money deals on some of the players who featured on loan last season.

The Whites’ main transfer target in this regard is Joe Rodon, who made 50 appearances in all competitions and is reportedly all but certain to leave Tottenham this summer [Football.London].

While Byram triggered an extension in the one-year contract he signed last summer, it’s unlikely that the Peacocks will be signing Roberts permanently this summer, largely due to his parent club Burnley’s relegation.

Roberts won a place in the PFA Championship team of the year as the Clarets won the league with over 100 points in 2023, and Burnley would be wise to bring him back into the fold in their bid to go straight back up.

That coupled with Byram’s extension, Leeds’ desire to keep Archie Gray and the reported return to Elland Road of Roma loanee Rasmus Kristensen, means that the Whites may not need to look for options at right-back next season [Corriere dello Sport].
