Comedian slams Leeds United fans after what they did to Victor Orta as image from London emerges
Comedian Jack Carroll has slammed Leeds United fans for “slagging” off Victor Orta after the sporting director provided him with tickets for the Whites’ FA cup clash against Fulham.
The Spaniard has come under criticism in recent weeks after an image emerged of him appearing to mock the travelling fans during the 1-0 loss at Everton.
Carroll has since responded to the criticism of the Spaniard and suggested the Marcelo Bielsa era may not have occurred without Orta’s influence.
“To all the folk slagging Orta and a few slagging me, he was instrumental in bringing us Bielsa, Premier League football and some of the happiest footballing memories of my life,” wrote Carroll (via Twitter, 28 February).
“As a season ticket holder, He’s alright by me and always has been. Sorry, I don’t have a short memory.
Best interests at heart
Orta is a figure who divides opinion, however, we do think he has the best interests of the club at heart. He was crucial in instigating the appointment of Bielsa. Furthermore, the sporting director nearly landed Cody Gakpo in the summer transfer window.
His antics during the season have been questionable, but, on the whole, his influence has been good. When things aren’t going right, fans will need something to blame, whether that be the ownership, manager or sporting director. He’s a passionate man, and that does sometimes spill over slightly.
The recent image of him appearing mocking the fans at Everton and the video after the Bournemouth win hardly painted the best picture, but it does show he cares about the club’s fortunes and long-term aspirations.
There are far bigger concerns at present, with this weekend’s fixture against Chelsea another chance for Leeds to put some distance between themselves and the bottom three.
