Clive Tyldesley: Ezgjan Alioski likely to leave Leeds United next week

Ezgjan Alioski is likely to leave Leeds United when his contract expires next week, according to ITV commentator Clive Tyldesley.

The 29-year-old played the final match of North Macedonia’s Euro 2020 campaign on Monday night as they lost 3-0 to the Netherlands, which meant they exited their first international tournament without a point.

Speaking during live commentary of the match on ITV [21/06/21], Tyldesley suggested Alioski’s time at Leeds is set to come to an end, with his Whites contract expiring next week on June 30 [Transfermarkt].

“The last time I was at Elland Road he was Man of the Match versus Tottenham Hotspur, the weekend before he was subbed at half-time,” Tyldesley said.

“He is a mixture of highs and lows, Alioski.

“It looks like his time at Leeds is probably over, his contract is up.”

Time to move on?

The closer we get to June 30, the more unlikely it appears that Alioski will put pen to paper and agree a new deal at Leeds.

If he was staying, one would have expected everything to be announced by now.

Perhaps he wanted to just wait until after the conclusion of his Euro 2020 campaign and then take a few days to decide from there.

Players can often boost their profile at these major tournaments and thus strengthen their negotiation position.

Alioski did score for North Macedonia at Euro 2020, against Ukraine, although it was a rebound from his penalty that was saved.

He put some lively displays in, as ever, but has his profile been increased considerably?

The Leeds livewire wasn’t exactly faultless in his displays, with the opposition often targeting his side as he looked to bomb forward and support his attackers.

Alioski will be ruing his national side’s inability to accrue any points, but it does leave him with some time to ponder his future before his Whites contract expires next week.

We’d still like him to stay, although we have faith in director of football Victor Orta to sign an ever better left-back if he does exit Elland Road this summer.
