Chris Sutton stunned by reaction of Leeds United players after sacking of Marcelo Bielsa

Chris Sutton was left stunned by the reaction of Leeds United players to the sacking off Marcelo Bielsa this weekend.

Kalvin Phillips, Liam Cooper and Patrick Bamford were just three of the squad to send their well-wishes to El Loco on his way out.

Sutton insisted it was “Astonishing” to see how many of the players had Bielsa in their hearts ahead of Jesse Marsch’s arrival.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live on the Monday Night Club (28/02), Sutton couldn’t believe his eyes at the reaction on social media.

“I thought it was amazing, your sort of Phillips, Bamford and Cooper, their posts stuff and love for him,” said Sutton. “It’s astonishing really.

“I just wonder if they went too early with the sacking.”

Astonishing.

There haven’t been many managers in the Premier League that have as big of a connection as Bielsa did at Leeds.

From the players, the city, to the fans and those around him, Bielsa was close to every last area of the club.

Phillips was the perfect example of that, with the Yorkshire Pirlo being transformed from nothing to everything by El Loco.

Now, it is time for him to push forward and prove he can still do it under Marsch, who has the unenviable task of following Bielsa.

Looking at his first interviews and interactions with the players, it looks as though Marsch has gotten off to a very good start.
