Chris Sutton reacts to Jesse Marsch sack talks, Leeds United fans may get their wish

Jesse Marsch is running the risk of the sack at Leeds United but Chris Sutton believes he should be given a “smidgen more time” at Elland Road.

The Whites suffered a 1-0 loss against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday (5 February) and they are perilously close to the relegation zone. Footage has emerged on social media, where a section of Leeds fans at the City Ground have been asking for Marsch to be sacked.

Sutton, writing for The Daily Mail, has suggested that Marsch needs to pick up results, otherwise, his time will run out and the ever-increasing number of frustrated Leeds fans’ will get their wish.

“There are only so many times you can say ‘trust the process’ and ‘we’re making progress’ without the proof and Jesse Marsch is running the risk of the sack,” wrote Sutton for The Daily Mail.

“I don’t blame the Leeds fans who are calling for their manager to go. I’m not quite there yet myself.

“That being said, this manager needs to show something pronto, otherwise his time is up. Marsch is approaching his one-year anniversary this month and yet, after losing to Nottingham Forest, he was saying: ‘We find ways to lose.’

“Well, it’s your job to find ways to win. Do that, or that ever-increasing number of frustrated Leeds fans’ will get their wish.”

Spot on

The next few games will be crucial here. If the results do not improve, the club should sack their manager.

The Whites board has done its best to help the manager. They spent big in the summer, and they showed ambition in the winter transfer market as well.

Marsch now has got a fantastic squad, and yet he has very little to show in terms of results.

Leeds have picked up only five points away from home all season, and are winless in their last seven Premier League games. There’s no use in playing an attractive brand of football if it doesn’t yield desired results.

Sutton is absolutely spot on here. Marsch is close to completing his one year at the club, and by now he should have rectified the mistakes that plagued the club last season. Instead, we find the Whites are clueless about defending set pieces and still keep on making the same mistakes.

They create loads of chances, but they need to improve on finishing. It is his job to turn it around, but sadly it doesn’t look like he is capable of doing it.
