Chris Sutton hits out at Leeds United fan who wants Marcelo Bielsa gone

Chris Sutton was baffled by a Leeds United fan saying Marcelo Bielsa has taken the Yorkshire club as far as he can.

Bielsa’s contract expires at the end of the season but despite taking the Whites back to the Premier League and securing a ninth-placed finish last season, one fan thinks enough is enough after the 1-0 loss at home to Newcastle on Saturday.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s 606, as shown on Twitter, Sutton was clearly confused by the Leeds fan’s cry for Bielsa to go.

Sutton asked the Leeds fan: “Are you blaming Bielsa, Mitchell?”

Michell then replied to say: “Yes. For me, he’s got to go at the end of the season, he’s done for me now.”

Sutton, clearly baffled due to his facial expression in the video clip below, butted in to say: “Hang on a minute. You’ve rung in a few times over the last season banging on about how Bielsa’s revolutionised the game and how good he’s been.

“And this season, we’ve talked about the injuries – Robbie [Savage] has made a very valid point and you know that. But then you’re saying Bielsa has to go.”

Is Mitchell right?

Bielsa has done the world of good for Leeds United.

He’s taken us back to the Premier League with a Championship league title, he’s led us to ninth in the top-flight, he’s got us playing a superb brand of football and has put Leeds, in football terms, back on the map.

Yes, this season has been rocky at times.

There have been days where it’s looked as though we’re getting dragged into a relegation battle – but there’s still plenty of daylight between the Whites and the Premier League’s beleaguered bottom-four clubs.

We’re not going down, but some of the issues this season – like the injury crisis – could be put down to Bielsa.

The Argentine likes to have a small squad of players and he likes to push them to the absolute limit with his training sessions and his style of play.

It’s not something he’s compromised on before so why would he do it now?

What Bielsa has done at Leeds so far has worked.

If he does go in the summer, it’ll be on his own terms and not because he’s not offered a new deal.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are set for talks to seal a last-ditch January signing.
