Chris Sutton goes against the grain with prediction for Leeds United vs West Ham

Leeds are searching for their first win in four when they host West Ham on Friday.

Despite a relatively positive start to the season, Leeds are well and truly back among the favourites for relegation, having failed to win any of their last three.

A 2-0 defeat to Burnley last weekend sparked concern for the Whites, who are now just three points above the drop zone.

West Ham travel to face Leeds on Friday night, having had an even worse start to the campaign, and Chris Sutton has had his say ahead of the clash.

Leeds simply need to win vs West Ham

West Ham are just as likely to succumb to relegation this season, having already seen Graham Potter depart from the London Stadium.

The Hammers have won just one of their first eight Premier League fixtures this season, with a remarkable reliance on Jarrod Bowen to get them points.

Ultimately, that hasn’t worked nearly as well as it has in past seasons, and Sutton can’t see that changing this weekend when they face Leeds United.

Via his BBC Sport predictions, he said: “Whenever I watch a team play as poorly as West Ham did then, I wonder how they will ever win a game.

Leeds are not on a great run either, but I still feel like they’ve been competitive when I’ve seen them.

“Most people would probably go for a draw here – that’s what I’m expecting from the readers anyway – but I actually think Leeds might edge this one.

Sutton went on to predict a 2-1 win for the Whites, which, given their recent run of form, would be more than welcome.

Leeds vs West Ham head-to-head

Dating all the way back to 1921, Leeds have faced off against West Ham on 111 occasions.

Leeds have won 49 of those encounters, while the Irons have won just 32.

With that said, the Whites have won just one of their last nine meetings with the Hammers, with a 3-2 victory back in 2022.

Jack Harrison scored a hat-trick for Leeds on that day, with Bowen and Pablo Fornals on the scoresheet for West Ham.
